The cold laser has been studied and used for medical purposes for over 30 years, but is relatively new here in the US being used in a clinic setting. I have found that the cold laser to be very effective at reducing acute pain through stimulation of the target cells by increasing the metabolic rate and accelerating the inflammatory cycle, increasing microcirulation and increased collagen production.
Ultimately the pathology of pain maybe due to a power deficit/muscle imbalance, joint or soft tissue restriction, coordination issue or a nerve impingement, but the cold laser can help to alleviate the initial acute pain to be able to progress the patient into addressing the underlying causes of the inflammation.
